Artist Statement
I create my work as a sanctuary from the fractured and divided world that we live in. They provide an opportunity to be transported to another place, one where there is calmness and serenity, where the viewer can feel grounded.
Working from my personal photographs as a canvas, I imprint designs that add rich layering and texture, drawing in the viewer for closer inspection. Beneath the controlled chaos, the story slowly unveils itself.
The hand-carved and hand-printed imagery create an element of imperfection in contrast to the photograph - a metaphor for life. The colors are an elixir that teases the eye and sets a mood, augmenting the experience of exploration.
